About The Opportunity
Our client is looking for a Development Planning Specialist to lead petroleum engineering projects, particularly those associated with heavy oil developments. Typical projects are both Canadian and International, and involve an inter-disciplinary team approach. The role of the Development Planning Specialist is to provide technical and commercial advice to clients at the feasibility and conceptual design stages of a project.

Job Description
As a project manager, the Development Planning Specialist also defines project objectives in collaboration with clients, and manages teams to execute projects to meet client deliverables on time and within budget.
This includes coordinating the efforts of multi-disciplinary team members and third-party contractors or consultants, writing project proposals and reports. The Development Planning Specialist is also expected to meet with clients on a regular basis and build, develop, and grow relationships with both existing and new clients.
Education, Experience & Skills
- The ideal candidate will have a degree in engineering, APEGGA membership (or equivalent Professional Engineering designation) and a minimum of 10 years petroleum engineering experience in a variety of roles.
- Conceptual engineering or large-scale field development planning experience would be an advantage, as would familiarity with cost estimating tools, such as Questor, and project scheduling programs such as Microsoft Project. Heavy oil and international experience are also preferred.
- The position requires good project management and time management skills.
- PMP or MCPM Certifications would be an asset.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and good inter-personal skills are essential, as is the ability to motivate others.
- The position may require occasional, travel but the majority of the work is completed in the Calgary office.
