The Well Planner is responsible for preparing and organizing directional well plans. Depending upon individuals experience and capabilities the Well Planner may is responsible for documenting well plans, structure files, 3D-analysis, torque & drag (as abilities dictate), and relating to ongoing field work and for development of future work.
Reporting to the Technical Support Group Manager of Ryan Energy Technologies, maintaining an effective and positive relationship is considered a key success factor. Effective communication skills are required to maintain this technical support relationship with internal and external clients in often difficult and stressful circumstances.
Essential Job Functions:
- Preparing well path proposals using client-supplied geological data
- Analyzing proposals in relation to offset well information in order to advise client and field staff
- Working closely with Directional Coordinators to prepare appropriate materials for bid packages and to ensure the smooth operation of ongoing jobs that meet or exceed client expectations
- Preparing multi-well structure control data for the production of spider plots, 3D-proximity reports, ellipse of uncertainty reports and 3D interference plots
- Planning, revising and drafting final working copies of wall plots, spider maps, ellipse of uncertainty plots and 3D interference plots
- Preparation of Final Well Reports
- Applying and maintaining up to date knowledge of compliance with regulatory agencies governing oil & gas production
- Applying and maintaining up to date knowledge of Magnetic Corrections for all areas in Ryan Canada operates
- Fostering and maintaining a professional attitude and a team work concept among all staff, within all areas of the organization. Promoting a culture of continuous improvement within the Ryan organization
Education
Degree/Diploma in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, Civil or Surveying
Experience
- Well planning experience is essential
- Minimum 1 year MWD, Directional Drilling, Gyro Survey, Well Bore Logging, or Drilling experience is preferred
- Previous experience with Well Planning software (Landmark Software – Compass for Windows) is preferred but not required
