Heavy Oil and Gas

The Company is a leader of in situ oil sands development and currently operates one of the most successful thermal recovery projects in the world at Pikes Peak, Saskatchewan. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly technical team, with a large land base, and lots of growth potential.
The Company's McMullen asset consists of over 190 continuous section of land and is located in the West Central region of the Athabasca oil sands district. It is estimated that the project could produce over 1.2 billion barrels of bitumen over the life of the project.
The successful candidate will work as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team focusing on the development of The Company's McMullen Thermal Asset. The team will have shared responsibility for understanding and predicting reservoir performance and working together to optimize the asset development.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Performing reservoir simulations to assess various development strategies for new and existing thermal recovery projects
- Providing input into the development plan, start up procedures, well designs and performance monitoring.
- Working with geologists, drilling, completions, facilities and production engineers to optimize the development strategy for McMullen
- Supporting the preparation of the annual capital budget, the production budgets, and the project economics
- Providing technical input into regulatory and environmental applications
- Formulating well operating strategies
- Responsible for regular reporting to management on key technical issues
- Providing annual reserve evaluations and bookings
- Championing Oil Sands research and development initiatives
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Professional Engineer status recognized by APEGGA
- At least 10 years of petroleum engineering experience with a preference of 5 years as a thermal reservoir engineer
- Thermal numerical simulation experience is a must
- Experience in production engineering, facility operations & drilling and completions will be considered an asset
- Strong analytical, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
- A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
